In 1874 Friedrich Wilhelm Kober founded Wilhelm Kober & Co. in Suhl, making small electrical household appliances. It was the first company in Germany to produce electric hair clippers, under the name “Präfect”. The 1922 commercial register lists the firm as traders in iron and haberdashery.
