Johann Leupold, Bayerische Messerfabrik, began in 1837 in Bayreuth, Bavaria. In 1900 it advertised as a specialist in “hunting, table and pocket knives”, and it made trench and combat knives for the Bavarian army. In 1921 Leupold registered a trademark of a shield charged with a crossed antler and an arrow, also used by the Johanniswerk Stahlwarenfabrik.

“Absolutely stunning in every aspect. So much background information that has been missed in other books. Definitely worth the price.”
