Ed. Wüsthof Dreizackwerk began in 1814 with Johann Abraham Wüsthof, who moved to Höfchen near Widdert, Solingen, in 1832. His son Eduard Wüsthof took over in 1839 and added pocket knives to the scissors, followed by straight razors, shears and carving and fruit knives. Eduard’s sons Robert and Eduard built a two-storey factory and a twin villa that still stands. Robert opened trade with the USA in 1881. The Trident trademark was registered in May 1895; before that Wüsthof used two crossed arrows.
